> They seek refuge in Mexico, and are raped and threatened. The first Caravan of Trans Migrants passes through the city of Saltillo.

Nakay Flotte and five other comrades, advanced through Saltillo in the “First Gay Trans-Mexican Migrant Caravan 2017,” to report on the injustices and discrimination they have suffered in their passage through Mexico, caused by both organized crime cells and government affiliates.

In their testimonies, Jocelyn, Genesis, Tatiana and Natalia, explained that their flight from different Central American countries was due to violations of their human rights by government entities, death threats by the Maras, and Lack of opportunities in the education and work sectors due to their trans status.

The group agreed that displacement forced them to migrate to Mexico where they requested help and refuge from the National Commission for Assistance to Refugees and the National Institute of Migration; However, in contrast to helping them, one of the agents of the INM participated in the rape of at least one of them.

They pointed out that the crimes they have suffered have also come from organized crime, and although these acts have been denounced in a timely manner, justice has never been done against the perpetrators.

“They always blame the Zetas, but sometimes they are also them. If the Government of Mexico does not provide shelter for us, we want at least a guarantee of free transit,” they added.

Jocelyn, from Honduras, comments that after entering Chiapas, she encountered a cell from an organized crime group and was exchanged for money and held captive for several months, exposed to pills, heroin, and rape by several men.

One of the representatives commented that of the 100 Central American transgender migrants who have requested refuge in Mexico, only 3 have been accepted.
