Mateo’s Story / La Historia de Mateo
Watch and share this short film about a family’s separation at the U.S.-Mexico border
In November, Border Patrol officials forcibly separated José Demar Fuentes, 30, and his one-year-old son Mateo when they turned themselves in at the U.S. border seeking asylum from gang violence.
Watch this short film produced by filmmaker Malona P. Badelt at MPV Productions:
Badelt says:
The last weeks have been especially intense for me. During a late night of research just before Christmas I read an article in The New York Times which made me so angry and restless that I went on a slight detour for my Dreamers documentary and drove down to Tijuana, Mexico. “La Historia de Mateo” is the first episode shedding light on what is happening right now in our country.
You can help me! In an effort to get these stories out into the world, please share this film. As always it will take a village to raise children, and maybe this time, our village can help reunite them with their parents.
Thank you Al Otro Lado, Neta, and Pueblo Sin Fronteras!
These organizations have worked tirelessly to reunite this family and many others separated by U.S. immigration.
